Fabulous 9ct gold ring with a large emerald cut synthetic sapphire, ring size UK K, US 5 1/4, inside diameter 1.6cm / .6 inch.
The beautiful burnt orange synthetic sapphire measures 2.1cm / .8 inch by 1.6cm / .6 inch, and is held with claws in a decorative pierced setting that is depth is 7mm / .27 inch.
The inside band is stamped 9, 375, with a leopard's head and the letter h. This means that the ring is 9ct gold, assayed in London, and is dated 1963.
The ring is in very good condition. This is a stylish fine quality cocktail ring from the 1960s.
Synthetic sapphires have practically the same chemical constitution as natural sapphires. Manufacturing synthetic gems began in the late 1800's, and was often used in antique jewellery.
