Art Nouveau Piel Freres silver plated chain belt, stamped PF on the buckle. The stunning panels are connected by chain, and feature ornate decoration with millgrain edging, set with oval and round pointed turquoise glass. The belt measures length 82.5cm / 32.5 inches. The larger links are width 3.25cm / 1.28 inches. The beautiful buckle measures 9cm / 3.54 inches, by 6.4cm / 2.5 inches. There is minor wear to the silver plating on the panels and the buckle, and also the turquoise glass. The chain is silver tone and not silver plated. Some of the long loops at the back of the panels are bent. We have given the belt a light clean.
This is a rare antique Piel Freres belt.
Piel Freres was founded in 1855, and manufactured mainly belt buckles and cloak clasps. The materials used were not expensive, but the design and finish were as good as that on an expensive piece of jewellery. Piel Freres won a Grand Prix award in 1900 and 1906 at the Exposition Universelle.
